Over 1 ton of narcotics torched in Sar-i-pul

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Police in northern Sar-i-Pul province on Saturday set alight 1044 kg of narcotics they had seized during the past 18 months.

Col. ShahMirzaSofizada, deputy provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drugs burned included 369kg of opium, 1.5kg of hashish, 40kg of heroin, 402g of crystal meth, nearly 70 liters of alcohol, 604 liters of fermented raisins and 11gm of Tablet K.

He added the above quantity of drugs had been confiscated within the past one and a half years.

Sofizada said 27 suspects have been arrested in connection with trafficking and selling of these drugs and police also recovered a motorbike, one Kalashnikovs and two pistols.

He added charge sheets of the accused had been referred to the judicial organs.
