PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Hundreds of residents of central Logar province attended a gathering here on Sunday to demand ceasefire and peace between the government and the Taliban.

The gathering in Pul-i-Alam city, the provincial capital, was attended by nearly 400 people.

Sayed Ibrahim Saadat, a tribal elder, said ceasefire and intra-Afghan negotiations were important for a permanent peace in Afghanistan.

He added the current government system was Islamic and war was not permissible in the country.

Religious scholar, MaulviShamsuddin said people were fed up with war and that government and Taliban should pave the ground for peace in the country.

He added the US has set a deadline for their troop withdrawal and now the Taliban and Afghan government must work for peace.
