MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Balkh police on Tuesday claimed a heavy explosion in Mazar-i-Sharif city, the capital of northern Balkh province.
Adil Shah Adil, the police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News armed insurgents had planted explosives in a gas cylinder that was placed in a vehicle.
He said police detectives recovered the vehicle at around 5am in Tasadi bridge area of Mazar-i-Sharif 10th Police district.
Adil added the militants wanted to detonate the explosives in a crowded area of the city. Police prevented possible casualties by seizing the explosives.
Adil said police blew up the explosives-packed vehicle outside the city. Local residents should not be concerned, he concluded.
