US stresses support for political settlement in Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad has underlined the need for urgent support toward an inclusive political settlement that ends over 40 years of conflict in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Khalilzad tweeted: “I met today in Tashkent with my good friend Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.”

“We agreed at this critical time, all stakeholders (Afghan, regional, & international) must urgently support progress toward an inclusive political settlement that ends over 40 years of war in Afghanistan.”

The diplomat said they also agreed the US and Uzbekistan would continue to work together on initiatives enhancing regional trade, connectivity and economic development.
