KABUL (Pajhwok): As they withdraw from the country, NATO troops have turned over another military base to Afghan security forces in northern Balkh province.

Camp Mike Spann transitioned to Afghan forces during a ceremony at the in Mazar-e-Sharif on Wednesday morning. the 209th Shaheen Corps said.

On Sunday, the US military handed over the control of Camp Antonik in southern Helmand province to the Afghan Special Forces.

Shaheen Corps Commander Gen. Ghulam Mustafa Wardak hailed Germany for training the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (ANSDF).

He also appreciated the global fraternity for extending assistance to the war-hit country over the years. Wardak asserted Afghan forces’ ability to safeguard their homeland independently.

A senior NATO commander, meanwhile, acknowledged the Afghan forces could to independently conduct operations against insurgents.

General Ansgar Meyer promised continued international support for Afghan security forces in logistics and armament sectors.
