KABUL (Pajhwok): Nine insurgents have been killed and wounded in clashes with security forces in Badakhshan and Samangan provinces, sources said on Sunday.
The authorities in northern Sari Pul province reported the arrest of two people in connection with the theft of 23 sheep, adding that the stolen sheep were handed over to their owner.
Attack in Badakhshan:
Police chief SadiqMoradi said that a group of armed insurgents attacked the Jalalabad check-post on the outskirts of the provincial capital, Faizabad, from several directions.
He said that five insurgents were killed and three others were wounded in the attack. He did not say if security forces suffered any casualties in the attack.
Some civil society activists said the Taliban briefly overran the check-post.
Saifuddin Sais, head of civil society in the province, said the Jalalabad check-post guarded Faizabad and if the Taliban captured the check-post; Faizabad would be under their control.
Samangan:
Taliban member Ahmad Khan, aka Bilal, a resident of Khulm district in Balkh province, was killed during an operation in Choghi area of Aibak, the capital of northern Samangan province, and his body was confiscated by security forces.
The slain rebel had killed three security personnel in Balkh last year before joining the Taliban,
Sari Pul:
Deputy provincial police chief Colonel Shah MirzaSufizadeh said police had arrested two people over stealing 23 sheep from Kharkash village in the provincial capital. The two were transporting the sheep in a car to Sari Pul city when police arrested them. The animals were then handed over their owner.
