KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Provincial Council members of southeastern Khost province on Sunday accused the police chief for Shahr-i-Safa district of Zabul province of killing a trader.

The public representative said that an autos trader named Mir Wali, a resident of Khost province, was first abducted and then killed on the order of police chief of Shar-i-Safa district Abdul Basir.

They said that Mir Wali had previously talked with a reporter and complained about bad behavior of police in a short video interview.

Noor Shah Noorani, a Provincial Council member of Khost, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mir Wali disappeared in Shahr-i-Safa district on May 3 but was found hanged to death from a tree on Saturday.

He said that before his murder, Wali was several times arrested and tortured in containers by Abdul Basir.

He asked the central government to arrest Abdul Basir and take him to justice. “If the central government fails to take any action, Khost people would use other ways and take avenge of the murder,” he added.

Meanwhile, Wakil, a relative of Mir Wali also asked officials concerned to detain the murderer of Wali and take him to justice.

“It is not a secret, Shahr-e-Safa police chief would often coerce Wali into giving him money, sometimes the police chief would forcibly lock him in container and take his vehicle for his personal use, Wali later published a video and complained about it, so that was the reason he was killed,” he said.

The video in which Mir Wali has complained about Shahr-i-Safa police chief has gone viral in social media.

In part of the video, Wali said, “When you get out of Kandahar, you reach a district of Zabul province, Shahr-i-Safa, its commander is named Abdul Basir, he is a bad man, he treats people very badly. He locks us in container and harasses us and forces us to give him money. We give the money. He took 1,000 Pakistani rupees from our friend a day earlier, he took 500 rupees from me today. We give him the money but he locks us in container, he drives away our vehicle, sometimes he drives it to Kandahar, sometimes to other areas. He has crashed our cars several times…”

The body of Wali was buried in IsmailkhelMandozi district of Khost province today.

Pajhwok tried to contact Shahr-i-Safa police chief and Zabul security officials for their comment on the regard, but failed.

Tariq Arian, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, said that they would take action if the family of the victim shared evidence about the incident with the ministry.
