KABUL (Pajhwok): The Muslim World League (MWL) is hosting the Islamic Conference of Declaration of Peace in Afghanistan Conference today (Thursday).
Sponsored by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the event in Makkah is seen as a milestone in advancing dialogue between senior scholars of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Seeking reconciliation among Afghani factions, the meeting would consolidate peace in the war-torn country, the Arab News reported.
The opening session will be chaired by MWL Secretary General Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who is also the president of the Organization of Muslim Scholars.
Afghan Minister of Haj Sheikh Muhammad Qasem Halimi, Pakistan’s Minister for Religious Affairs Dr. Noor-ul-Haq Qadri and other scholars will speak on the occasion.
Pakistani and Afghan ambassador to Saudi Arabia and permanent representatives of the two countries to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are among the attendees.
The five-session event involves more than 20 speakers, including senior scholars. The sessions focus on five themes discussing peace, tolerance, moderation, reconciliation, Islam’s approach to protecting a man’s dignity and life, peace-building in the light of the Islamic principles.
Regional peace and security, the role of scholars in resolving regional conflicts and supporting peace-building efforts will be the highlights.
