LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least eight policemen have been killed mysteriously in southern Helmand province, an official said on Sunday.
Attaullah Afghan, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the eight policemen found dead in Lashkargah, Helmand’s capital, on Saturday night.
He said the motive behind the incident in the Bost Qala area was yet to be known, but investigation was underway.
But another local source, wishing anonymity, said a policeman had killed nine of his colleagues at the check-post. The killer managed to flee the area.
Asked about the killings, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Zaman Hamdard said he was unaware of the incident.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which comes amidst soaring violence across the country.
