KABUL (Pajhwok): Nearly 1,600 new Covid-19 cases and 85 deaths have been recorded in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health said on Sunday — the highest single day figures.
The ministry in a statement said 4,587 tests were conducted during the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 1,597 people, bringing the overall tally to 91,458.
Of the fresh cases, 312 were recorded in Kabul, 157 in Kapisa, 155 in Nangarhar, 124 in Balkh, 110 in Baghlan, 82 in Herat, 75 in Kandahar, 73 each in Helmand and Logar, 71 in Bamiyan, 58 each in Faryab and MaidanWardak, 52 in Paktia, 44 each in Ghazni and Kunar, 26 in Ghor, 25 in Badakhshan, 16 in Laghman, 11 each in Kunduz and Zabul, ten in Badghis, seven in Khost and three in Samangan province.
At least 471 individuals recovered from the pandemic during the period, taking the total recoveries to 61,410.
The MoPH said 85 people died of the virus in the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 3,612.
The global infection tally has reached 176 million, with 160 million recovering and over 3.8 million losing lives to the infection.
