KABUL (Pajhwok): Hezb-i-Wahdati Islami party leader Mohammad KarimKhalili has said that Afghanistan’s problem could not be resolved through force or monopolization of power and stressed the available peace opportunity should be fully utilized.
Addressing a gathering of youth, civil society members and war victims, he told the Taliban: “By force and fighting no side can bring peace.”
He asked the Taliban, political parties, government and different tribes to agree on an inclusive peace in which every stakeholder could see themselves.
He said peace should ensure co-existence of all stakeholders not the one based on conspiracy which benefits one group. “The peace process will succeed when the sides see themselves in it so that the root causes of the conflict in the country could be exposed,” he added.
He said the situation had changed from what it had been 30 or 40 years ago. He offered to the Taliban to choose an inclusive peace and shun the idea of monoplising power.
He stressed that the available peace opportunity should be fully utilized, adding that if this time peace was unsuccessful, the next generation will hold present day leaders accountable.
Referring to government commitment with Hazara people, he said the government should take strict measures to ensure public safety and security.
