KABUL (Pajhwok): Positive Covid-19 cases and deaths from the infection are on the increase in Afghanistan where over 1,800 new cases and 71 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health said on Monday.
The ministry in a statement said 5,070 tests were conducted during the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 1,804 people, bringing the overall tally to 93,272.
Of the fresh cases, 363 were recorded in Kabul, 147 in Balkh, 101 in Kandahar, 99 each in Bamiyan and Panjshir, 96 in Nangarhar, 91 in Logar, 88 in MaidanWardak, 74 in Paktia, 66 in Kunduz, 61 in Ghazni, 54 in Herat, 42 in Faryab, 38 in Ghor, 37 in Zabul, 32 each in Badakhshan and Kapisa, 30 in Takhar and Urozgan, 28 in Baghlan, 26 in Laghman, 25 in Daikundi, 24 in Parwan, 17 in Nimroz, 12 in Kunar and three in Khost province.
At least 296 individuals recovered from the pandemic during the period, taking the total recoveries to 61,704.
The MoPH said 71 people died of the virus in the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 3,683.
The global infection tally has reached 176 million, with 160 million recovering and over 3.8 million losing lives to the infection.
