KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of fuel, sugar, rice and tea have increased while the rate of Russian gold dipped following the fall of Afghani currently value against US dollar during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Sunday.
Haji Hussain, owner of the Sadaqat Money Exchange Service, told Pajhwok Afghan News that one US dollar accounted for 79 Afghanis and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 494 Afghanis, compared to last week’s rates of 77.55afs and 494afs respectively.
Moneychangers say that the reason Afghani currency lost its value was due to fall of districts to Taliban, uncertain future of Afghanistan and withdrawal of foreign forces from the country.
Fuel prices increased by six percent. A worker at the Hashimi Fuel Station in Taimani area said the price of one liter of diesel increased from 51afs to 53afs and the same quantity of petrol from 50afs to 52afs.
Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kalola Pushta locality, said the price of one kilogram of gas increased from 55afs to 60afs.
In food items, the prices of rice, sugar and black tea have increased. Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders’ Union, said the price of a 24 kilograms bag of Pakistani rice increased from 2,400afs to 2,500afs, 49 kilograms of Indian sugar from 2,300afs to 2,400afs and a kilogram of African black tea from 320afs to 350afs.
Hamed Sofizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh market, said a 49-kg bag of Kazakhstani flour cost 1,650afs, a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar 2,450afs and a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice 2,550afs.
Similarly, a 16-litre tin of Malaysian cooking oil cost 1,930afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea 370afs and the same quantity of African black tea 380afs.
Mohammad Javid, a jeweller in Lycee Mariam neighbourhood, said the price of one gram of Russian gold decreased from 2,950afs to 2,900afs while the same quantity of Arabian gold remain steady at 3,600afs.
