Muslimyar commends public support for security forces

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Meshrano Jirga (Senate) chairman says despite his aversion to the creation of militias he supports the public uprising against the Taliban.

In a statement, Fazal Hadi Muslimyar said residents of eastern, southern, northern and western Afghanistan recently took up arms against the Taliban and in support if the security forces.

While commending the move, he said Afghanistan had witnessed people’s cohesion, unity and solidarity throughout its history, pushing back and humiliating the aggressor.

He added: “I’m not in favour of the formation of private militias and irresponsible militants because the nation has witnessed the bitter experience of such situation.

“But I do support strong and systematic backing from the people of the national security forces and the system. I respect that,” he explained.

The Senate chairman noted the Afghan forces and uprising members had retaken several districts from the insurgents. He assured more areas would be recaptured soon.
