CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): Security forces have retaken control of Shinwari district of central Parwan province, government sources said on Tuesday, but the Taliban said the district was still in their hands.
Provincial police chief Abdul Rauf Uruzgani told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces recaptured the district’s center on Monday night.
Mohammad Hamid Niazi, head of provincial coordination center, said the special forces from central units with air support entered the district building after several hours of fighting at around 11:30pm.
A resident of Shinwari, who did not want to be named, said in a phone call this morning that government forces had entered the Shinwari district compound last night.
He added the Taliban suffered casualties, a number of government forces were reportedly injured, and a number of civilians were killed when mortar shells hit a residential house.
But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the claim that the government forces had taken control of Shinwari district was incorrect.
Mujahid released a video from the Shinwari district where the Taliban could be seen there and the district was under Taliban control.
He added the militants had pushed back attacks from the security personnel.
