Last Georgian troops withdraw from Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): The last unit of Georgian troops has returned home from Afghanistan, reports a Tbilisi-based news website.

The departure of the last remaining unit of the 32nd battalion marked the completion of Georgia’s troop pullout from Afghanistan.

Georgia Civil reported the 32nd Battalion of Georgia’s Western Command’s 3rd Infantry Brigade served in Afghanistan as part of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission.

On May 21, Georgia began drawing down its troops in line with NATO’s decision on winding down the Resolute Support Mission.

As part of NATO-led missions since 2004, Georgia first joined the International Security Assistance Force and then the Resolute Support Mission.

It contributed about 860 servicemen to the NATO force in Afghanistan. Overall, over 20,000 Georgian troops have participated in multiple rotations over the last 17 years.
