KABUL (Pajhwok): National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel on Friday foiled a terrorist attack on a Herat-Kabul flight and arrested the perpetrator, the spy service said in a statement.

NDS operatives arrested Sayed Idris, son of Rajab Ali, who had skillfully placed a grenade and RDX material and chemicals in a rabab, posing as an artist.

The statement said during the inspection of Sayed Idris’ equipment at Khwaja Abdullah Ansari Airport, security personnel acted swiftly, detected and defused improvised explosive devices before fear could spread among other passengers.

The statement said although terrorist groups were constantly trying to harm civilians and public facilities, the country’s security and defense forces were resolute and capable of thwarting the enemy’s evil plans.

The statement did not provide further details about the time of the arrest or the flight to Kabul.
