Ghani orders Special Forces to launch night raids

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday ordered Special Forced Unit to launch night raids against militants.

A statement from the Presidential Palace received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the president talked with officials of 777 Almas Special Forces Unit and 777 Special Air Force Brigade on the telephone late on Monday.

The president praised the performance of Special Forces and Air Forces and said history will remember their sacrifices and courage, the statement added.

“You all have my full support, your demands and suggestions would be fulfilled on time,” he was quoted as saying.

The officials assured the president and said that they would fight until the last breath of their life, the statement said.

Ghani said that he would provide more weaponry and equipment to Afghan forces and would integrate Afghan Special Forces Unit with the Afghan Air Force Unit in a single brigade.

“Special Forces will remain absolutely special, your name is Almas (777 Almas Special Forces Unit) and you should stay firm. I will also integrate another special unit with you so you would be able to perform for what you are tasked,” he said.

Ghani said that supply missions of Air Force would be reduced and they would focus more on night raids. “I decided that night raids would start from today afterwards,” he said.

He said that the course of fighting would be changed with the support of Afghan Air Forces.
