KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): One prisoner was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between the inmates and police in the central prison of southern Kandahar province.
The incident took place last night when police tried to transfer some prisoners to Kabul.
A reliable source told Pajhwok Afghan News that police tried to transfer some inmates to Kabul but the inmates resisted their move.
The source added that clashes broke out between the prisoners and the police who resorted to fire.
One prisoner was killed and four others were injured in the incident, the source said.
Security officials have not commented on the incident.
The central prison is located on the Kandahar-Herat highway in the Sarpoza area west of the city, where the Taliban launched an attack a few days ago and tried to enter the city.
As a result, security threats to the prison have increased and rumors of a Taliban attack on the prison have surfaced several times.
Hundreds of troops are currently stationed to guard the prison.
The prison has been attacked three times by insurgents in recent years, and hundreds of prisoners escaped each time.
