Afghanistan’s Covid-19 death toll crosses 6,000-mark

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 1,198 new Covid-19 cases and 89 deaths from the virus have been recorded in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health said on Thursday.

The ministry said 3,528 tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 1,198 people, taking Afghanistan’s overall tally to 139,051.

However, MoPH did not mention Covid-19 positive cases, deaths and recoveries on provincial level.

At least 1,613 individuals recovered from the pandemic during the period nationwide, pushing the number of total recoveries to over 86,219.

A statement from MoPH said 89 people died of the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 6,072.

The global infection tally has reached 189 million and over four million have lost their lives to the pandemic.
