KABUL (Pajhwok): The government is waiting for the time and place of a next round of peace talks at a higher level as the Taliban surged violence by 50 percent recently, an official said on Thursday.

MaulaviAttaurahmanSaleem, deputy head of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), told reports here that after the US-Taliban agreement, violence increased in Afghanistan while it was hoped that the Doha agreement would reduce violence.

With withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan, violence has surged in violation of the Doha Agreement.

Saleem said, “If the purpose is to go towards an Islamic government then we should act alike, fighting is not the way to settle things. The Taliban should put everything on the table of talks in line with the teachings of Allah almighty.”

Referring to the high level talks between the Taliban leadership and Afghan government leaders he said: “Until now there is no agreement on the time and place of high level meeting, we are waiting for the call of peace facilitators and Afghan government is fully prepared to take part in such meeting.”

Without providing more details, Saleem said: “In the coming week, their intension for peace and stability will become clear.”

When asked he said: “Only discussion on the release of Taliban prisoners will not resolve the problem and there is need for everything to be discussed on the table of talks. ”

Syed Abdullah Hashami, Peace Ministry’s Monitor on Violence and Ceasefire, said there was drastic surge in violence in the first four months of the ongoing solar year. Despite repeated calls of government for peace the Taliban responded with increased violence.

He added: “Besides financial and human losses, women freedom is curtailed in areas under the Taliban control.”

Hashami said during the past four months, 2,577 civilians were killed and 3,021 others injured. Of total death toll, 1,446 were men, 650 were women and 925 were children.

Among the injured, he said, 1,850 were men, 290 were women while 881 were children. He said according to their statistics the Taliban on average surged their attacks by 35 percent after every two months.

He said foreign militants were still present in Taliban ranks and alleged after witnessing massive losses, the Taliban were recruiting human force from areas under their control.

\Taliban Spokesperson ZabihullahMujahid rejected Peace Ministry’s allegation regarding harming civilians and destroying their property and other possessions.

“Afghan security forces attacked civilian homes and their properties that resulted in massive losses,” he said.
