Boys, girls can pursue higher education: MoHE

KABUL (Pajhwok): Taliban’s acting higher education minister on Sunday said universities would be reopened soon and boys and girls would continue their education in separate classes.

Talking to a press conference here, Mualvi Abdul BaqiHaqqani, the higher education minister, said that all the education process in the country would be based on Sharia law.

In the education sector, anything in conflict with Islamic principles would be reformed, he added.

“Salaries would be paid to government universities, if there is any delay in the payment (for now), we apologize for that but the problem would be solved soon,” he said.

Haqqani said that some countries did not want Afghanistan to develop and that was the reason they were taking out academic cadres from the country.

Academicians should not worry and they should not leave their country because the government has no any problems with them and they would be even supported, he said.

He said that provincial universities would be also standardized and all moral corruption from campuses would be eliminated.

He also asked private university officials to standardize their educational programs and assured them of resolving their problems.

“Any country that supports the Ministry of Higher Education would be welcomed”, he added.

Former higher education minister, Abbas Basir said that he was happy that the Taliban would form an inclusive government and it was time for them to prove their promises in action.

He said that private universities cooperated with the Ministry of Higher Education a lot in the previous government and they should continue their support in future too.

Basir said in every regime change in Afghanistan, everything had been started from zero, but he suggested the Taliban to reform the parts only which had problems.
