KABUL (Pajhwok): The Iranian president is optimistic that peace will return to Afghanistan now that foreign forces have pulled out of the war-torn country.
Ebrahim Raisi urged elections in Afghanistan to determine the country’s future, where the Taliban are set to form a new government.
The Associated Press quoted Raisi as saying in a televised speech on Saturday that the Afghans should vote to elect their government as soon as possible.
The Iranian leader added: “A government should be established there which is elected by the votes and the will of the people.”
He claimed Iran had always underlined the need for peace and an end to bloodshed in the neighbouring country. We support a government elected by the Afghan people.”
