Qatar ruler, US officials discuss security in Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): The emir of Qatar has exchanged views top US diplomats on the security situation in Afghanistan.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad met US secretaries of state and defense in Doha on Monday, a statement from the emir’s office said.

Recent development in Afghanistan and efforts to enhance security in the country came up for discussion.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to Doha to thank Gulf countries for supporting the evacuate thousands of people out of Afghanistan.

In one of the largest airlifts in history, the US has evacuated more than 120,000 Americans, Afghans, and other nationals.

However, thousands of Afghans at risk, who worked for foreign governments in their country, and 100 US citizens, are still in Afghanistan.

From Qatar, Blinken will head to Germany while Lloyd will travel to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait.
