KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran has underlined a proactive role by international organisations in addressing humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian issued the call during a meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in New York on Tuesday.
IRNA quoted Amirabdollahian as saying that Iran had been hosting Afghan refugees for more than four decades despite sanctions and the coronavirus pandemic.
Grandi commended Iran for its generous hospitality towards Afghan refugees and presented a report on human rights situation in Afghanistan.
He emphasised on UNHCR’s commitment to dealing with the situation of the displaced people, including in Afghanistan.
