PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has underlined the need for global engagement with the Taliban government to prevent a looming humanitarian crisis and economic collapse in Afghanistan.

The Foreign Office issued the call as special envoys of Russia, China and Pakistan arrived in Islamabad after a two-day visit to Kabul.

During their trip, the diplomats met Afghanistan’s Prime Minister Mohammad Hasan Akhund, Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mutaqi and other officials of the caretaker government.

The envoys met Pakistan Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood. They reaffirmed support for a peaceful, stable, sovereign and prosperous Afghanistan.

They also underlined the importance of international engagement to address humanitarian challenges and stabilise economic situation,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.

The Taliban informed the diplomats they were not averse to girls’ education and would soon reopen schools after addressing the security situation.
