PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The issue of taking money from truck drivers on the Kabul-North highway has been resolved in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Monday.
Baghlan governor Mullah Ahmad Nasrart told Pajhwok Afghan News truck drivers were previously forced to pay illegal money at Jarakkhast and Dandi Ghori areas. At the time, he said, Islamic Emirate personnel would collect six million afghanis a day from drivers and would hand over the money to officials concerned.
“But since the country’s ports are with us, money paid as customs duty has been stopped in provinces,” the acting governor said.
A driver on the Kabul-Mazar-i-Sharif road, Abdul Sattar, said they would pay money both to officials of the previous government and Taliban.
He said with the new government coming into power, security on highways had improved and no one asked them for taxes on the route.
