PAKTIKA (Pajhwok): An FM radio station called Nejat Ghag has launched its programs in Sharana, the capital of southeastern Paktika province. The radio is mostly dedicated to religious programs.

The head of Nejat Ghag Radio told Pajhwok Afghan News that this was the first time that a radio station dedicated to religious programs would be launched in Paktika.

He added that the radio was activated thanks to a businessman and its broadcasts would be to spread Islamic awareness.

He noted that he had already planned to activate the radio and had been in the process of obtaining a license ever since, but now he was able to complete all the technical work and be ready for radio broadcasts.

Religious scholars are happy with the radio’s activation, saying it will make it easier to educate people about religious principles.

Maulvi Noor Mohammad Nomani and Pir Mohammad, two religious scholars, said the radio broadcasts would be provided by well-known religious scholars and would provide religious awareness to the people.

Qari Amir Mohammad, head of Paktika’s information and culture department, also praised the station’s work and said they would work closely with it.

The Nejat Ghaor (The Voice of Salvation) is launched in Paktika at a time when several radios were shut down in the province.

The reasons for the closure of these radios were restrictions on freedom of expression and financial problems.

As a result, dozens of media outlets across the country have been shut down and hundreds of employees have been laid off.
