KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Higher Education Minister Abdul Baqi Haqqani on Wednesday said efforts were underway to resume universities as soon as possible.
He said conflict of the past 40-years badly affected the higher education system of the country, adding that efforts were on to resolve these issues and resume higher education.
Haqqani said during conflict the Taliban protected higher education institutions and this showed that they were committed to promote higher education in the country.
He said when the returned to Kabul and took charge of the higher education ministry he held meeting with all teachers of higher education institutions who pledged full support in strengthening the higher education in the country.
“Being an Islamic country, Afghanistan needed two type of educational institutions one religious seminaries that provide Islamic education to the people and second is modern higher education which also direly needed,” he said.
He said during a meeting with private education institutions head he asked him to reduce higher education fees.
