200 more families get cash assistance in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Thursday distributed cash assistance to anther 200 internally displaced families in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province.

Javed Ahmad Wahidi, head of the International Organisation for Migration, said these families had been earlier surveyed and identified as deserving persons.

He said every family was provided with $195 in cash so they could buy essential items for themselves.

He said they were planning to distribute cash assistance to 1,775 people in Helmand province. According to Wahidi this process will be completed in phases.

Syed Jan, an internally displaced person, said the conflict had badly affected their lives and now they were unable to return to their homes due to terrible economic condition.

He was happy to receive the cash assistance and asked the government and the international community to provide more assistance to them.
