SHARAN (Pajhwok): Three children were killed and a fourth was injured when an unexploded device they were playing with went off in the Mata Khan district of southeastern Paktika province.
The incident took place in Akakhelo village of the district late last evening.
Khan Mohammad, a resident of the area and an eyewitness to the incident, told Pajhwok Afghan News the children had found the unexploded ordnance and were playing with it when it exploded.
He added that three children of Faiz and Khan Mohammad, two residents of Akakhelo village, were killed and one was injured in the blast.
Meanwhile, residents of Mata Khan, Sar-i-Roza and Yahya Khel districts demanded that unexploded ordnance, landmines and other explosives left over from the recent fighting be cleared and destroyed.
Meanwhile, one person was killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Mohammad Hassan village of Khairkot district on the same day.
Officials have not commented on the two incidents.
