KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) announced on Thursday launching a drive to fix the electricity network in Kabul’s Hoodkhel locality amid power theft claims and other irregularities.
According to a Pajhwok Afghan News report, around 3,000 of electricity consumers in the locality have not paid for years their power dues worth millions of afghanis.
Some families in the area consume electricity in an improper way and without having energy meters.
DABS acknowledged irregularities and said efforts were being made to resolve these problems through negotiations with area residents.
DABS commercial branch head Maulvi Abdul Rahman Rahmani, at a meeting with area elders, said the illegal use of electricity was prohibited by Islam.
He added the power utility was committed to ensuring transparent power supply to the people and fully cooperating with them.
DABS launched the reform process with effect from today and will provide new energy metres to the consumers who had lost them or had no meters at all.
A statement from the power utility said Kabul Breshna Shirkat chief Maulvi Fazal Rahman FazIi evaluated two energy meter boxes and initiated the reform process in the country.
