KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistani foreign minister Shah MahmoodQureshi and his delegation met with the prime minister of the new Afghan caretaker government in capital Kabul on Thursday, officials said.

Qureshi arrived in Kabul on Thursday, leading a high-level delegation to meet with Afghan officials and leaders on bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kabul Mansoor Ahmad Khan wrote on his Twitter account that Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund met with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister MahmoodQureshi at the Presidential Palace today.

“Bilateral talks (are) underway in presence of leading Afghan Ministers for facilitating people to people interaction, trade, transit & connectivity between two brotherly nations,” he said in a tweet today.

Earlier, Pakistani foreign ministry had said that Qureshi would also meet with a number of other Afghan officials during the visit.

The Pakistani envoy said that the two sides would also discuss strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.

BilalKarimi, spokesman of the Ministry of Information and Culture, said that Afghan and Pakistani officials would work together to improve bilateral relations and resolve problems at Torkham and Spin Boldak ports.

The two sides will also discuss the plight of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, he said.

About a month back, Gen Faiz Hamid, the head of Pakistan’s ISI, also visited Kabul just days after the fall of Ashraf Ghani’s government.
