KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): As many as 910 raisin processing rooms and 56 cold storages have been built and put into service in different districts of southern Kandahar province, officials said on Thursday.
A ceremony in this regard in Daman district was attended by Assadullah, Director of Agricultural Products Projects, Ministry of Agriculture, Shamsuddin Shariati, Deputy Minister of Water Supply and Natural Resources, Maulvi Mahmood Mazloom, Director of Agriculture, and others officials and tribal elders.
Assadullah told Pajhwok Afghan News that construction work on hundreds of raisin rooms and cold storages was launched last year and the project was recently completed.
He added 910 raison rooms and 56 cold storages were constructed in nine districts of Kandahar province.
He said each raison room cost 372,000 afghanis and each cold storage consumed 2.4 million afghanis.
Each raison room has the capacity to process 14 tons of grapes and each cold storage has the capacity to store 25 tons of grapes and apples.
He said the ministry planned to provide special training to gardeners and farmers across the country on how to make better use of raisin rooms and cold storages.
Shamsuddin Shariati, Deputy Minister of Water Supply and Natural Resources, said the construction of the raisin rooms and cold storage facilities would solve problems faced by farmers and gardeners in the field of fruit conservation.
A farmer in Daman district expressed happiness over the construction of raisin rooms and cold rooms, saying that from now on, farmers and gardeners will be able to store their fruits in cold rooms and sell them to the market when needed.
