Herat governor pledges reopening of girls schools soon

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Girls schools in western Herat province will be reopened in coming days, according to a statement on Thursday.

Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar during a meeting with schools representatives and Teachers Union officials assured that every effort would be made to ensure girls’ school are reopened, the statement said.

After the Taliban took over the country on August 15, majority of girl school has banned.

Education and women rights activists often demanded the reopening of girl schools.

Mohammad Sabir Mashal, head of the School Teachers Union in Herat, said: “We want the Islamic Emirate of Taliban to take action regarding the issuance of teachers’ salaries.”

Residents in Herat province also asked the Taliban to ensure the reopening of girl school and pay teachers’ salaries.
