3 killed, 1 injured in Jalalabad shutout

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a civil activist and his brother and wounded a third person in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses said that the attacker escaped from the scene despite security forces tried to arrest him.

An eyewitness, Khaksar, told Pajhwok Afghan News that unidentified gunmen opened fire on three people in the Chaknori area of seventh police district of Jalalabad city around 11am today.

He said that the attacker on a motorcycle fled from the area after the incident. He had no information about casualties.

But a health worker in Jalalabad who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok that they received two bodies and one injured person to the hospital.

He said the dead included a civil society activist, Hijratullah Khogyani and his brother, and the injured man was their friend.

Local officials yet to comment on the incident.

In another incident, a local security personnel was killed in the 3rd police district of Jalalabad 12:30pm today.

An eyewitness, Nawab Khan, said gunmen on motorcycles killed a Taliban security man in the Golai Arab area and then managed to flee from the area.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
