Pakistan skips meeting on Afghanistan in India

KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Moeed Yousaf says he will not attend India’s summit on Afghanistan.

India will host a meeting of national security advisors from Russia, China, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on Afghanistan in New Delhi on November 8.

Pakistani NSA Moeed Yousaf told reporters on Tuesday that his country had declined India’s invitation to attend the summit on Afghanistan.

He believed countries needed to coordinate and interact with the Afghan government on preventing a humanitarian catastrophe there.

Instability in Afghanistan had a direct impact on Pakistan and could cause losses to his country, the official remarked.

Russian hosted a similar conference on Afghanistan two weeks ago while a meeting of foreign ministers from Afghanistan’s neighbours was held last week in Iran.

The meetings focused on issues such as the new government in Afghanistan, the release of DAB’s frozen funds and humanitarian aid to the cash-strapped country.
