KABUL (Pajhwok): A blind Afghan athlete has won this year’s London half marathon featuring 500 contestants.
Wali Mohammad Noori ran 10 kilometres in the final round of the half marathon on Friday and finished first.
Noori, who lost his eyesight in a landmine explosion in Helmand province a decade ago, has thus shot into prominence at home and abroad.
Having won several races for Afghanistan, he told reporters earlier: “I will take part in the competition on October 10 and I hope I can be as proud of Afghanistan as I used to be.”
