500 trained on monitoring community-based education

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The United Nations  Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has trained 500 individuals on monitoring community-based classrooms for children, an official said on Wednesday.

Education Department official Maulvi Maazullah told Pajhwok Afghan News UNICEF, COAR and some other aid agencies had established hundreds of community-based classrooms in Kandahar.

A two-day capacity-building training was provided to 500 members of local councils on monitoring community-based classrooms and encouraging people to send their children to these classrooms.

He added religious scholars and tribal elders from Kandahar City and eight districts -- Arghandab, Dand, Daman, Zherai, Shah Walikot, Maroof, Spin Boldak and Arghistan -- participated in the training programme.

Maazullah said the trained individuals had been tasked with overlooking the education process and helping reduce the gap between the public and the education system so motivate parents into sending their children to schools.

Ghulam Nabi, one of the trainees, said they had been taught how to monitor community classrooms and to encourage people to send their children to schools.

He added after getting training they would be able to better perform their duties.
