LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Construction work on the Ghazi Mohammad Ayub Khan township in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, has progressed by 70 per cent, with the rest being in full swing.
The modern residential town is being built on 650 acres of land in Sarkar area of Lashkargah and has been under construction for the last two years.
Haji Mohammad Issa Omari, head of the township construction company, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 300 people work on the project, which has been 70 percent completed.
He said the township would contain wide roads, modern residential houses, parks, schools, health centers, universities, commercial areas, mosques, gymnasiums and other necessary facilities.
According to him, while construction of the township is in progress, thousands of people visit the town every day for entertainment. He did not give details about the cost of building the township, but said it had cost millions of dollars.
The residents of Helmand are happy that a beautiful residential town is being built in the province which is also a place of entertainment for many.
Musa Jan, a resident of Lashkargah, who has set up a cradle for children and youths in the township, told Pajhwok Afghan News that thousands of youths come to the place every day for entertainment, especially on Fridays.
He added it was the most modern place in Lashkargah with good facilities for accommodation as well as games and entertainment.
