KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) says the United Nations will send about $20 million a week to Afghanistan until the end of March 2022 to address the shortage of cash in the country.
A source close to Da Afghanistan Bank told Pajhwok Afghan News that the money would be transferred to the Afghanistan International Bank (AIB) and used for purchase of essential items in the country.
The amount of money would possibly increase in the future, the official said.
According to the source, the aim of sending cash to Afghanistan is to prevent exchange of dollars in the market and shortage of cash.
This comes as three packages of the aid have so far reached the DAB or Afghanistan’s central bank.
Currently one US dollar is exchanged for 123 afghanis in Afghanistan compared to 88 afghanis around four months ago.
