Central Passport Office to resume functioning tomorrow

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Central Passport Office in capital Kabul will resume functioning from Sunday for applicants who have already applied and completed some administrative procedures while new applicants would be welcomed from January 10, an official said on Saturday.

Passport Office Director AlamGulHaqqani told Pajhwok Afghan News that on the directives of Interior Minister SerajuddinHaqqani, some new equipment had been purchased for the passport office, adding that technical issues in the passport office had been resolved and it will start functioning from tomorrow (Sunday).

He said individuals who had their applications signed and received bank receipts could refer to the Central Passport Office and new applicants would be welcomed from January 10.

He said a chart has been installed in the Passport Office and applicants who had already applied could appear to the passport office through that chart.

He, however, said Thursday has been reserved for Mujahideen and common people are not welcomed.

He said people from other provinces shall not refer to the central passport office and and instead refer to their own provinces since necessary arrangements had been provided to them there.

He said around 150 big commission agents had been arrested from Kandahar, Herat, Kunduz and Logar provinces. He asked people not to pay to commission agents adding no reference was acceptable at the passport office.

Haqqani said until now 150,000 passports had been distributed and the Passport Office revenue reached 600 million afs in the past three months.
