FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Participants of gathering in western Farah province have underlined implementation of law and Sharia to reduce social strife, raising public awareness, strengthening tolerance and eradicating poverty.
The gathering was organised in the provincial capital by Pajhwok Afghan News with the financial support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Danish Embassy.
The meeting was attended by Qari Badruddin, acting director of information, 20 tribal elders, teachers and civil society activists.
Haji Taza Gul Khan, a tribal elder, shared his experiences of resolving conflicts and differences in the community.
He said the role of religious scholars and tribal elders in this regard was crucial. “We have often resolved disputes that the government has been unable to address.”
Another participant, Hafiz Ismatullah, highlighted the benefits of peace in line with the Sharia and law and the negative consequences of violence. He stressed urged all people to play their role in resolving disputes.
Director of Information Qari Badruddin spoke about the recent political change in the country. “Praise be to Allah, peace was has been achieved. Let’s tolerate each other and work together to strengthen peace.”
Overall, the proposals focused on law and order, public awareness, strengthening tolerance, eradicating poverty and illiteracy, and educating children to reduce social conflict.
Ro resolve disputes, the agreed, justice must be ensured and qualified people appointed to jobs. The speakers also called on the people to differentiate between friends and foes.
