JALALABAD (Pajhwok): “Honest media outlets are the voice of masses,” says an official after a Pajhwok Afghan News investigative report about the usurpation of the land of the Canal Department in eastern Nangarhar province.

On December 19, Pajhwok Afghan News published an investigative report on grabbed land of the Canal Department.

According to the report, due to former officials’ negligence and corruption, 2,427 acres of the Canal Land could not be retrieved and 1,147 land grabbers could not be arrested.

Land grabbed by individuals ranges from few plots to tens of acres. Canal Land Department sent 28 official letters to security and judicial authorities in the past 14 years seeking their support in reclaiming the grabbed land.

Canal Department Head Mawlavi Ghulam Rahman said: “Honest media outlets are the voices of people. We welcome their honest efforts and thank them for their cooperation.”
