Turkey, Qatar agree to jointly run Kabul airport

KABUL (Pajhwok): Turkey and Qatar have agreed with the Taliban on operating the Kabul International Airport, a media report said on Saturday.

Following successful negotiations, Ankara and Doha would also run four other airports in the war-torn country, the Anadolu news agency said.

The media outlet quoted sources as saying the parties held “productive” negotiations and agreed to set up technical groups.

Earlier, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Turkish and Qatari firms to jointly run the Kabul airport.

According to the Anadolu report, the companies agreed to operate the airport in collaboration on the basis of an equal partnership.

A joint Turkish-Qatari delegation are said to have left Kabul for Doha, where they will continue discussions on operational details.
