ZARANJ (Pajhwok): After the dismissal of Shaheed Gul Mohammad High School’s principal, students protested in the capital of western Nimroz province.
Some of the protesting students were arrested but released by police. However, they were released as a result of mediation by local elders.
A source, wishing to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News about 150 students protested after a new principal was introduced for the high school.
He said the students staged a demo in front of the Nimroz Education Department, but were detained by the security personnel and taken to the central prison.
The students were beaten by the security forces and released two hours later.
Meanwhile, police spokesman Bahram Haqmal confirmed the incident and said the students were released after mediation by tribal elders.
But Maulvi Haqyar, director of education, said: “The issue surfaced due to differences between the students and the new principal.” He also verified the students’ release.
