SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Food and other essential items were distributed to about 600 war-affected and needy families in northwestern Jawzjan province, while a number of displaced families complained about their bad situation in cold winter and demanded heating resources.
Mohammad SadeqQasemi, head of Al-Mustafa Charitable Foundation, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the aid distributed to 600 needy families included flour, oil, rice and clothes detergent. The relief items were distributed in ProjaFamili and Pol Khorasan areas in Shiberghan, capital of the province, today.
He said that the assistance was distributed considering the worrisome situation of war affected families in the provincial capital.
He added that Al-Mustafa Charity Foundation has so far provided food and non-food items to 3,000 families in Kabul, Takhar, Kunduz and Balkh provinces.
Distribution of more aid to the needy will be also distributed in other provinces by the foundation in the near future, Qasemi said.
War affected families who received the assistance in Shiberghan said the distribution of the aid by charitable organizations was helpful and asked for more aid in future.
Qoyash, a resident of Mardian district of Jawzjan province, said that a year ago he and his family took refuge in Shiberghan city due to the conflict in their village of ForukQala in Mardian district.
He currently lives in a tent with his family in cold winter. “I and my family are alive by the assistance of some charity organizationss, we are disappointed about this situation and not even interested to live.”
He described cold weather and lack of fuel as one of the main problems for IDPs in the city, and asked charities to help provide them with heating resources.
Awraz, a resident of Darzab district of Jawzjan province, said: “I am happy with the aid distributed by Mustafa Foundation because it can help us for few days.”
“Relief organizations should not forget poor families because we live with very limited facilities in tents close to Pol Khorasan area,” he said, adding that he currently had no means to heat his tent.
He hoped that relief organizations would also launch settlement programs to rehabilitate displaced persons.
Around 2,000 families affected by war currently live in Shiberghan city and they are unable to build their houses and return to their own areas.
