KABUL (Pajhwok): Economic affairs experts have termed the flow of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan vital and stressed the international community should support the implementation infrastructure projects in the war-torn country.

The US frozen Afghanistan’s nearly $10 billion reserves after the fall of previous government and takeover by the Taliban and imposed some more sanctions on Afghanistan which led to economic crisis in the country.

During this period some countries and international aid agencies provided humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and the distribution of this aid was underway in capital Kabul and provinces.

Kabul Economic Faculty Teacher Zakria Haidari told Pajhwok Afghan News after the takeover of the Taliban some businessmen withdraw their capital from Afghanistan, Banks which are considered as the backbone of a country’s economy were faced with the shortage of cash bringing the country at the verge of complete economic collapse.

He said when banks facing cash shortage this reflected upon the economic crisis in the country on multiple fronts.

Haidari said: “After the takeover of new government and sudden economic change the poverty level surged from 15 percent to 90 percent. Current statistic showed that over 90 percent people lived under the poverty line and in this situation international humanitarian aid was very vital.”

He said if in the current deteriorated economic situation international community denied humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan the impact of economic crisis would have much greater.

He added as a result of economic crisis laws are violated in a society, general order is disturbed; public life is threatened and over all security situation gets deteriorated.

Haidari stressed besides humanitarian assistance, the international community should cooperate in the implementation of infrastructure schemes in the country.

Partamina Wardak, another Kabul University Economic Faculty instructor, said international humanitarian assistance was vital for circulation of country’s economy.

Had there not been humanitarian aid extended to the people of Afghanistan the economic situation of the people would have deeply deteriorated, she believed.

She termed international assistance vital for improved the overall economy of the country and added: “Every strategy implement according to plan it prove effective, there are some rumors that corruption had happened in aid distribution process. I want the Taliban to endure justice and fairness in aid distribution and ensure that aid is reached to deserving people.”

Government Deputy Spokesperson Bilal Karimi told Pajhwok Afghan News that aid distribution process was going on fairly and aid is provided to the most deserving people.

He did not acknowledged some claims regarding injustice in aid distribution and said if in odd case transparency is violated people could refer to legal channels there and seek their rights.

University Teacher Partamina criticized previous government economic policy and said in the past 20 years Afghanistan’s economy should have institutionalized adding that basic work for a sustainable economy was not carried out.

She asked government officials to provide work opportunities for the people and hire professional individuals in the public offices.

She also stressed over attracting global assistance for the implementation of infrastructure projects in the country.

This comes that few days back the Ministry of Finance during a meeting with UN officials thanked the world body for humanitarian aid and asked for the continuation of these assistance. Officials said if Afghanistan problems soared it will not be in the interest of international community.
