Official vows to clear hurdles to girls’ education

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): More than 750 schools for 600,000 girls and boys are open in northern Balkh province, an official said on Monday.

Education Director Maulvi Abdul Jalil Shaheed said this at a graduation ceremony for 14 students of 12^th class at the Afghan-Turk High School in Mazar-i-Sharif.

He hoped during winter vacation all hurdles in the way of girls’ education would be cleared.

Afghan-Turk High School Director Mohammad Naeem Farotan said it was the third batch of students graduating from the school after its administrative affairs were handed over to the Turkish government.

Farotan said in the two previous batches around 150 students had received 12^th class certificates. Of them, some 100 have been sent to Turkey for higher education.

He added in 2022, more students from Kandahar, Herat, Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif, Jalalabad and Shiberghan would be sent to Turkey.

Education Director Abdul Jalil hailed Turkey’s cooperation with Afghanistan in the field of education. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing a secure environment for education.

After the capture of Balkh by the Taliban, all schools across the province had been kept open for boys and girls, the director said.

He hoped hurdles in the way of girls’ education would be removed by the beginning of the new academic year as the ministry concerned was working hard in this regard.
