11 killed, 23 injured in countrywide rains, flooding

KABUL (Pajhwok): Eleven people have been killed and 23 others injured as a result of heavy snowfall and flash floods across the country, an official said on Thursday.

Reports suggest most parts of the country were lashed by heavy snowfall and rains, triggering flash floods, roof-collapse incidents and severe cold.

A Disaster Management Ministry official told Bakhtar News Agency that 11 people were killed and 23 others injured in the recent wet spell.

Helmand, Nimroz, Farah, Nangarhar, Badakhshan, Jawzjan, Takhar, Kandahar and Takhar provinces were hit by floods while people suffered elsewhere due to heavy snowfall.

On Wednesday, the Disaster Management Commission, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, met to take stock of the situation.

Baradar tasked representatives from the relevant ministries on the commission to provide emergency aid to affected individuals and get prepared for a possible emergency situation.
